Absolutely No Good Writing Advice In This Post At All!
In case you need a break
So Medium changed its compensation scheme recently, and everyone went bat guano crazy. Well, maybe not those of us with modest expectations and a naturally ironic sense of proportion. But lots of you did. Admit it, now.
So suddenly it’s a scrum — Medium writers are milling around trying to re-game the system and keep their zillion-dollar earnings coming, and apparently the only thing they agree on is that you’ve got to send out advice to everyone. And the advice everyone seems to want is how to write so that they, too, can earn money on Medium.
Most of that advice appears to be less to do with writing and more to do with SEO and email marketing and expanding Medium’s presence (I think) or whatever. And there is still plenty of breathless insight imparted about white space and quality images and the desirability of getting curated and such.
I’ve not yet seen much about improving the content — now that we’re supposed to care more about the reading process instead of the clapping process. But still everyone keeps talking about the “writing.”
Has everyone forgotten that Medium is a social medium? Not a literary medium?
