Good piece, but dig deeper: makeup typically focuses on making our own faces look younger (infantile? non-threatening to men?) or sexually aroused (wide eyes; engorged lips, etc.). What’s unique about that?
Where are the gorgeous patterns or imaginative colors? Where’s the butterfly we could get at the face painting booth when we were seven? When I start seeing some creative expressions of true individuality, then I’ll believe women are wearing makeup “to express themselves.”
