Interesting piece, but I am confused by my own responses. Reading as a white middle class woman, fortunate to have a good education and a respectable career, but never thin or rich or beautiful or serene or white enough, I totally get the point you are making.
Reading through my other lens, which is that of a seeker of justice and compassion for a critically endangered world, my main response is, “Womp, womp...Another sad white woman, mistaking social pressure for social oppression. Cry me a river.”
I honestly don’t know how I can reconcile the two lenses in my observatory. I marched in the Women’s March, but I wore sunscreen. WTF?
