Of course the observation is correct, dear reader, for all societies where women were scarce resources for which men could compete. Which has been most of them. (Unless it was the other way around, and the women had to compete for the safety and protection of men, which explains makeup. Hadn’t you wondered?)
Either way, the point will be moot when we start treating each other less like “resources” and more like — oh, I don’t know — human beings.
Once we get that little detail sorted, we might get somewhere.
