This distinction is an important one, and I’ll be thinking about it carefully. Perhaps you will agree that some men unfortunately don’t roll that way.

By the way, I enjoyed your take on the #metoo phenomenon. I’ve been disgusted at the current public, prurient sh*tshows that pass for “investigations” of allegations of sexual violence, abuse, or misconduct. Trying such intimate acts in the “court” of public opinion guarantees there will be grandstanding, mindless outrage, and the insane victimization of both parties. (For my view on how our extreme ideologies obstruct due process, rather than ensuring it, you might be interested in this piece, based on a loosely related true incident I experienced:)

No Jury, No Justice

The fact that our legal system has not codified a fair, consistent, respectful, fact-based, confidential — not secret — process for inquiring into such accusations is an embarrassment. We have not advanced much since The Scarlet Letter.

I’ll follow with interest your expressions of what you candidly call your defensiveness. I have a streak of contrarianism myself and an annoying tendency to see more than one side of arguments, even those I passionately defend.

Rock on, Estwald.
